Cocaine, colloquially known as coke, is an addictive recreational drug used widely across the country and indeed, the world.
The duration for which cocaine stays in the system depends on the method of administration as mentioned below:
Method | Half-life | Duration of stay in the system |
Orally ingested | 48 minutes | 4 hours 24 minutes |
Nasally administered (Snorted) | 1 hour 15 minutes | 6 hours 53 minutes |
Intravenous (IV) | 42-54 minutes | 3 hours 51 minutes to 4 hours 51 minutes |
Once cocaine is metabolized, two metabolites, benzoylecgonine, and ecgonine methyl ester are created. Their half-lives are 5-8 hours and 3.5-6 hours respectively. Benzoylecgonine is expected to be removed from the system after 27½-44 hours , while ecgonine methyl ester will take around 19¼ -33 hours.
Please note that the above timeframes are on average, in reality, certain variable individual factors must be taken into consideration. These factors include:
How long is cocaine detectable in urine, blood, saliva and hair for a drug test |
|
Urine | 2-4 days |
Blood | 12 hours to 4 days |
Saliva | 12 hours to 4 days |
Hair | Up to 90 days |
